American Idol has always been a singing competition, at least before Season 7 began. This season has provided a little something extra by letting contestants play instruments. Has this hurt their performance any? Not in the least. Has it helped the contestants? For anyone watching the show, the answer should be an obvious yes.

TALENT

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a singer not being able to play an instrument. Of course, no one really knows much about what instruments past contestants could or couldn't play. Many musicians feel more at ease when playing their favorite instrument while performing. Sitting in front a piano or holding a guitar in front of you helps to give you something stable while your nerves are telling you to run as fast as you can from the audience. Some singers are perfectly at ease with just their voice, but others feel much more comfortable with their favorite instrument. Feeling at ease makes a performance much better than one filled with nervous warbles.

PITCH

Since I play an instrument, I know how vital my instrument is to me staying on pitch. You can hear the band playing, but there is something about having playing your own instrument that makes you concentrate on blending your voice with the notes your playing. American Idol contestants know the same thing. It's easier to find the right note or pitch when you're the one playing them.

INVOLVED

When a contestant is playing an instrument, they are suddenly part of the band as well. They don't feel quite as alone up there as someone that's just singing. Being more involved in the music helps a contestant feel more confident which creates a great performance for the audience and the judges.

Overall, I think the producers and judges make a great decision in allowing the contestants to play instruments. This gets them more involved with the band and the performance and better showcases their talents. Not only is this a great decision for the contestants, but for viewers as well. After six seasons, it's nice to see something new, besides the contestants.

I don't usually give 5 stars but this film deserves it. Denzel Washington offers that same sense of protagonist/villain support that characters like Pacino's Scarface offers. We know he is leader one of the most ruthless and sophisticated mobs but he is charming and best of all a family man. However, as great as Washington was in this film, Crow is even better. He is a worthwhile nemesis by also being the everyman that you and I can empathize. He is successful through his persistence. This is not Gladiator or tough guy Russell Crow as the hero. The pace of the film is rapid and keeps your attention. The drawback to the film is the setting. There is nothing glamorous about 70's New York. It's dark, gritty and painfully ordinary. This is why fans have criticized this movie because it contains none of the elaborate backdrops found in other Ridley Scott films. There are no wild beasts or space carriers in site. Scott is always reminding viewers that this battle is fought through your homes and in a place remniscient of any ordinary neighborhood....albeit a neighborhood with a huge mansion. I liked this film because this it captures what real bad guys are about. They are not these over-the-top and debonair mafia warlords like Don Corleone. They are intelligent people who prefer to keep their cover simple yet extremely organized and methodical.

A Minneapolis couple decided to go to Florida to thaw out during a particularly icy winter. They planned to stay at the same hotel where they spent their honeymoon 20 years earlier.

Because of hectic schedules, it was difficult to coordinate their travel itineraries. So, the husband left Minnesota and flew to Florida on Thursday, with his wife flying down the following day.

The husband checked into the hotel. There was a computer in his room, so he decided to send an e-mail to his wife. However, he accidentally left out one letter in her e-mail address, and without realizing his error, sent the e-mail.

Meanwhile, somewhere in Houston , a widow had just returned home from her husband's funeral. He was a minister who had passed away following a heart attack...

The widow decided to check her e-mail, expecting messages from relatives and friends. After reading the first message, she screamed and fainted. The widow's son rushed into the room, found his mother on the floor, and saw the computer screen which read:

The title says it all. Looks like in the distant future we could be drinking fresh water made of our urine. NASA has developed a water purification system that collects astronaut's sweat, moisture from respiration, drain water, and urine - and turns it all into drinking water.

NASA has been working on this technology due to the heavy expense it incurs with transporting fresh water to the space station. Over the past five years, the agency has spent $60 million delivering potable water to the International Space Station on the space shuttle (6 tons at a cost of about $40,000 per gallon). Deploying the Water Recovery System on the ISS will cut the volume of water hauled into space by two-thirds and free up enough room on the shuttle for four more astronauts.

Water Security has added a special filter to the NASA unit, creating a system that can remove 99.9 percent (what about the other .01 percent) of all waterborne viruses, which could prove particularly useful in the developing world. The United Nations estimates that more than 1 billion people lack access to safe drinking water and that 10 million die each year as a result of contaminated water supplies and inadequate sanitation.

Water Security has already begun putting the technology to work in areas where freshwater is in short supply. This summer, global relief agency Concern for Kids deployed a foot-powered purification unit in northern Iraq. Robert and Roni Anderson, Concern's founders, loaded it onto the back of a Toyota pickup and drove to dozens of villages to purify their groundwater. The unit pumps out 5 gallons per minute, and a single day of purification can sustain a village of 5,000 people for a month. The cost is about 3 cents a gallon. Iraqi water companies, by comparison, charge $4 a gallon.

I will not even try to explain how this system works for it is far to complicated for my simple mind. However, I am curious to see how many of you would adopt this method for drinking water. I know for myself, it might taste fine but in the back of my head it will always be there that I am drinking urine. Yuck!!

Good job Fox for providing us this breaking news. It's not like this country is in economic despair and the we are at war but it is very important for us to know that college girls, who in my opinion do not look that racy, were kicked off their cheer team. Don't they wear about the same amount of clothes on the field?

Also ,maybe the girls who were not involved should not have been punished. Just a thought.

In this day in age most Americans are concerned with the rising gas prices. I know for myself that the increase in prices can hurt the bank account since I commute 5 days a week. I have heard many experts give advice on how to get better gas mileage. Most are false. The one myth that interests me the most is the debate over whether to use the AC or not. Here is what I found.

To A/C or not A/C

There's no question air-conditioning makes extra work for the engine, increasing fuel use. But car air conditioners are much more efficient today than they used to be. In around-town driving, using the A/C will drop fuel economy by about a mile a gallon.

Meanwhile, driving at higher speeds with the windows down greatly increases aerodynamic drag. As speed increases, drag becomes more of an issue, making A/C use the more efficient choice at high speeds.

At most speeds and in most vehicles, A/C use drains slightly more fuel than driving with the windows down, contends David Champion, head of auto testing for Consumer Reports. "My final take on is that it's very close," says Phil Reed, consumer advice editor for Edmunds.com. "It's hard to measure the difference and every vehicle is different."

The best choice - if temperature and humidity allow - is to keep the windows rolled up and to turn the A/C compressor off. You can keep the fans running to blow in air from the outside, but your car will be as aerodynamic as possible while still letting you breathe. You will save gas, but the fuel economy improvement will be slight.
